Southwestern and Navajo Rugs
The rich colors of the earth and
dessert are reflected in the geometric patterns and blocks found in southwestern art. These same design motifs
and patterns are found in today's rug designs. Native American, Pueblo, or Navajo rugs add style to different
types of homes typical of the southwest. The adobe, timber homes, open beam construction, and even a rustic
cabin is complemented by the richness of Native American designs found in today's quality rugs.
Folk and Tribal Rugs
The southwestern design elements can also be found in folk and tribal rugs. Many of the quality brand rug
manufacturers have rug collections which draw on the influences of similar patterns and design motifs. To name
a few, Designer Labels has a beautiful rug called Natchez. Mohawk Carpets makes one called Crazy
Horse Desert Tan. Oriental Weavers has a collection called Taba. In the Phillip Crowe
Collection by Shaw Carpets you will find Apache Spice.
Couristan Rugs has some exquisite southwestern area rugs. Two collections which have some exceptional
designs are the Chelsea and Highland Collection. Then there is the Taos Collection by 828
Rugs, as well as the tribal rugs of Native America. Central Oriental carries the Bellini
Collection and Louis de Poortere has a whole series called Navajo.
